This segment of The Portage to be constructed will begin at a trailhead on the east side of Middlebury Road. The trail will continue east to an existing aggregate trail within Fred Fuller Park.

The project includes the construction of a multi-use trail facility consisting of a 10’ wide asphalt trail on grade, a 176’ bridge crossing the Cuyahoga River and 750’ of boardwalk.

In 2009, the Cuyahoga River segment of the Portage was opened ending at the south end of Fred Fuller Park.  This next phase will continue the trail from Fred Fuller, along the river, to the John Brown Tannery Park.

Multiple alternates were explored to determine the best alignment.  Factors that were considered as part of the alternate alignment study included; environmental impact, historical impact, construction and maintenance cost, trail experience, utility involvement and impact to adjoining property.
