Jerry T. Fiala
Mayor
Jerry T. Fiala previously served fourteen years as the
Ward 1 representative for the City of Kent. In 1997,
he served as Mayor, having been appointed by Council to fill
a vacancy created when Kathleen Chandler was elected as a
Portage County Commissioner.
Mayor Fiala has lived in Kent
for his entire life. He worked for Tree City Mold, as
a supervisor, for forty-three years, and retired in 2006.
He and his wife, Carol Sue, have two children, Valerie and
Tom, and four grandsons.
Mayor Fiala is a member of St. Patrick's Church, and
belongs to the Kent Lions and the Knights of Columbus. He is
very active in the Kent community, and volunteers for many
events in the downtown area.
According to the Kent City Charter, Mayor Fiala
represents the City in ceremonial affairs and presides over
the Council meetings. He represents the City in a
multitude of events around and on the Kent State Campus.
According to state law, he can perform weddings, and does so
by appointment.
