The City of Kent is asking people to not enter the river.
Last summer, the City of Kent Fire Department rescued more than 20 people from the river due to high water in the river. The current water level in the Cuyahoga River is even higher than last summer. High water levels cause shoreline erosion. The erosion weakens tree roots and causes downed trees in the river, creating unexpected and dangerous obstacles, obstructing a person’s path.
River conditions put both residents and rescuers in danger. Especially with the current coronavirus pandemic, rescue operations can be seen as even more dangerous due of the nature of the rescue. The City of Kent wants to keep everyone safe and reduce stress during this already challenging time.
Thank you for your cooperation.
